You Owed My Nothing Fooled me once And you are the fooler Fooled my twice And you’re the ruler Inched your way out Day by day One foot leads the other Okay Okay I sent myself On this mission A hopeless one But a mission all the same Hope to place your heart In debt to mine Maybe hook up in some grand way Maybe change your name But you sapped my big old tree And left me empty and pining And I was Spent out when I realized You Owed Me Nothing

SINGING FOR MY LIVING (An Imagined Duet with Joseph Hale) ( 9-18-2014) I recall the talks that you and I once had As we were trapped on the highway so many years ago We’d pass the time with tales and tunes that we were both into I wonder what you’re up to now What are you into? Well I’m up, looking down and I’m happy after all The face paint of the clown I was, is all behind me now The circus is for sale, but I could not care less Who gets the big top or benefits from it You once said you were twisted and a somewhat tortured youth Your teenage mind exploded as the final question was so loaded The matters of facts were all scattered on the King’s Horse’s back And in the end, they rode off and they never did ride back Yes oh yes indeed the meanings ended here with me They rode in with some calm with the dew of my first and final dawn They stay with me through each day and the days are never-ending Here in the land of every new beginning How’s the music there, are you taking in the scene I’ve heard they have the best, far beyond our earthly dreams I’d like to make it up sometime, but can’t be in a hurry As I’m grounded here for now and singing for my living The sustain is forever and there’s never a wrong note The people sing my songs and praise everything I ever wrote And I too do sing theirs, as voices fall on hearing ears So loudly and sincere, loudly and sincere Well, we all do miss you, since you’ve gone away We long to hear your voice and talk to you to your face It’s good to know you’re good, I mean, I think I can hear you say Don’t worry for me, I’m gonna be okay Yes Yes, don’t worry for me, I’m gonna be okay

about

This was the first time that my late friend, Joseph Hale and I got together to play anything. It was back in 2008. I'm happy that I documented it. We went on to play a bunch together over the next couple years or so with our band The Odd Urges and doing some duo shows as well. If it’s been discovered by man, West Virginia’s Todd Burge has written about it. A born ponderer and observer of life, each of his songs tells a story. Whether drawn from personal experience or a tale of poetically woven fiction, you’ll live every second of it through his songs. ... more
