The LONGER
by Todd Burge ©2015 Bunj Jam BMI
I’m taking pictures of you behind your back
I once was told that doing that
Would make it last
Longer
I long for this to last
Longer
Fifty years have come and they have passed
But AARP ain’t stopping me
From wanting to be with you
Longer
I long for this to last
Longer
Anchors away
Can’t keep this thing at bay
Can’t keep the beast in me away
You’re stuck inside my mind ‘n I’m out of my head
After years of this, I’ll admit
This gift has gotten
Stronger
I long for this to last
Longer
I long for this to last
Longer

Chances
By Todd Burge ©2015 Bunj Jam BMI
Life is one big long sport
You wanna win, no new report
It comes and goes in a glance
Don’t blink now, here comes a chance
I was born, but just that once
I’ve learned some, I’ve been a dunce
Lord I tried to be your guy
And tell the truth as I lie
Tell the truth through all my lies
Chances are I’ll take a chances are I’ve had my chance
I’ve been born and I’ve been raised
I’ve been broken and been displaced
I’ve searched my soul for amazing grace
And lost my mind in outer space
Things are funny, strange are things
Rational thinkin’ is out of range
Coincidence is happenstance
Chances are I’ll take a chances are I’ve had my chance
My road’s well-traveled and worn out
Been repaved from North to South
So my times, we’ve all lost count
I need some change without a doubt
The fear in me comes late at night
I sit up straight and sweat with fright
I pray for me with all my might
Lord give me rest and I’ll be alright
End this test and make me right
Chances are I’ll take a chances are I’ve had my chances
are I’ve had my chance
I’ve killed men, in my mind
I’ve gotten caught and have done hard time
I’ve put my hate in a song that rhymes
And sung til love is all I find
Sung til love is all I find
Sung til love is all I find

Ask Them To

Ask Them To 10-22-14
By Todd Burge ©2015 Bunj Jam BMI
Your best work
Has gone unnoticed
Your finest hour
Is acting its age
Before beauty
Is in the eye of the beholder
The sole proprietor
Has some soul searching to do
Someone is bound to reach out
If you just ask them to
Someone is bound to reach out to you
Just ask them to
Ask them to
It might sound corny
But one stock won’t do
It’ll grow alone
But never ever produce
So get your bees to buzzin’
Or call up a kissin’ cousin
And make some noise
That only two can do
Someone is bound to reach out
If you just ask them to
Someone is bound to reach out to you
Just ask them to
Ask them to
There’s one thing
The lonely can’t see
Love is there
It never ever leaves
A dormant state
Can be released
If you congregate
That gate will open
It’s true
Someone is bound to reach out
If you just ask them to
Someone is bound to reach out to you
Just ask them to
Ask them to

The Good Times of Life
All songs by Todd Burge ©2015 Bunj Jam Music BMI
We weren’t rich and we weren’t poor but the neighbor kid next door, could not say the same
His playhouse was the place where all the who’s who in the hood would come to play their games
One day they split and locked me up in there, then sprayed me like a bug
That had just gasped at his last breath
Mark this down as the good times of life
That haven’t quit killed me yet
It was a 1972 panel wagon with powered windows and rear views too
And my first time driving solo I bought those wide mouths in Ohio in that lawless drive through
Then me and Beth made the rounds as tiny towns were all a blur
And how I got her home, I forget
Mark this down as the good times of life
That haven’t quit killed me yet
Drew was in the service and as an expert in munitions, he proudly served
He had the know how to kapow
And led us down that country road that turned and swerved
A 50 pound pumpkin packed with a gizmo ready set
blew our minds that light stopped blinkin’ red
Mark this down as the good times of life
That haven’t quit killed me yet
I was just a college boy who couldn’t keep his mind employed beyond his corduroy pants
She was a girl I barely knew who had a man who was a bruiser, but still I took the chance
I broke in her bedroom window for some coffee, tea or me
Before he dropped her off in all her sun dressed mess
Mark this down as the good times of life
That haven’t quit killed me yet
Now she and me have doubled down and after years of being two, we two have turned into two times two
And those kids they grow so fast, not one moment ever lasts and our lives they blast on past
One minute is a smile and the next, a major trial
Yet I’d never trade it, you better know it, you better bet
Mark this down as the good times of life
That haven’t quit killed me yet
Now I travel around from show to show, hiding behind my rhymes
While revealing all I’ll never know
Truth be told I do love it so, But I’d be lying if I didn’t say I daily miss my home
Every note has a cost, that’s the price for being lost
In a song with a tune that’s set
Mark this down as the good times of life
That haven’t quit killed me yet

Step Aside
By Todd Burge ©2015 Bunj Jam BMI
Put me in
I wanna win
To be the best
At life’s test
I’m asking you to go and hide
Step aside, step aside
I will drive
Just wait and see
Close your eyes
As you know me
I’m asking you to go and hide
Just step aside
I could bite you
Despite the nose on my
Face it it’s true
I’m the shadow behind you
So put me in
Just give in
I'm flesh n blood
so be a bud
I’m asking you to go and hide
Just step aside
Break
I could push you
Despite my impending doom
I’m the shadow behind you
So come on son
While you’re young
Put me in as I’m half-done
I’m asking you (You’re telling me)
I’m asking you (You’re telling me)
I’m asking you
To step aside, step aside, step aside

Time to Waste Time
By Todd Burge ©2015 Bunj Jam BMI
Spring is here the bugs have come
It’s time to dumb it down
My head is filled with morning mist
The moss is boss for now
My list of things to do has been
Misplaced someplace unknown
It could be lost forever now
Unread, un-shown and thrown
Away
I’m off in my mind, out of my head
I’m off in my mind, out of my head
Time to waste time
With so much time on my hands
Most doors need to be opened for me
I’m leisurely and out to please
Just me, myself,
And me
I’ll work for food, if the work is easy
And if the food is good
Cause Spring is here and the bugs have come
And I couldn’t care if I could
Chorus
Forever more’s been around the bend
Since before the bend was invented
Since Father Time asked his dad for a dime
and the keys to his Buick
Some teen whoopee was in the offing
In that big fat back seat
The key to life lies neatly within
Father Time’s time in….
That… back…. Seat..
I’m off in my mind, out of my head
I’m off in my mind, out of my head
Ready, or not ready yet
Time to waste time

If This Tree Could Talk
By Todd Burge © 2015 Bunj Jam BMI
If this tree could talk
He would cuss at us
For carving our names
In his bark
Happy were we
As we cut that old tree
But to him it was way too sappy
Our carving outlasted our love I guess
The sap stopped a sad sticky mess
Now you belong to him as I belong to you
And this tree should be telling me some truth
My pocket full of posy
Is imposing on you
As I ring my final thoughts
Around the rosy
You belong to him as I belong to you
And this tree should be telling me some truth
This old tree will live rings around our lives I guess
And as most kids post their love on someone’s wall
I’ll walk up here each Fall
And talk to the tree
With the scars of the love of you and me

Aches and Pains
By Todd Burge ©2015 Bunj Jam BMI
Aches aches aches and pains
The more time ticks the more aches and pains
If I had the time to think, I’d go insane
Over all my aches and pains
Pain pain, life’s a pain
and how you cope is based on
How it’s framed
Like a fuzzy puppy with oversized eyes
Imitation life behind art’s disguise
Life’s a bitch, then you bitch
And while I bitch, it’s a son of a bitch
Not sure what I’ve got to gain
As I bitch about all my….
Aches aches aches and pains
If I could do it over again
Again I’d do it over again
But I might add just a bit more sin
As it might stop my mind from wanderin’
When I was a younger
Man oh man
I could make a stand
and deliver with little strain
But now I’ve got these
Aches aches aches and pains
The more time ticks the more aches and pains
If I had the time to think, I’d go insane
Over all my aches and pains

The Cheerleader
by Todd Burge ©2015 Bunj Jam BMI 4-10-14
Don’t let this get you down
We’re all bound to break
If we can’t bend a little bend
Bend a little bit
A bit, a bit a bit a bit
It’s all been said before
And it’s a tiny bit cliché
So I won’t say it anymore
Say it anymore
Don’t let life Kill You
Don’t let the fight beat you up up up up up
Don’t get down
Take it on the chin, defend your face again
Break
Chorus
I’ve got a cheer to lead
And it may be just for me
As I’ve been holding back
Stacking up, but holding back
Back n back n back n back
Don’t let life Kill You
Don’t let the fight beat you up up up up up
Don’t get down
Take it on the chin, defend your face again
Defend your face again
Oh, don’t lose face again
So defend your face again

Water Works Oct 1 2013
by Todd Burge ©2015 Bunj Jam BMI
When my well runs dry
A tear comes to my eye
But I hide it from the kids
And try to let it go
As they have no need to know
How my water works
When it rains it rains
When it stops it stops the pain
When my water works
When my love’s away
It darkens up my day
A cloud comes to town
And brings a shadow down
And thunder comes around
Lightening precedes sound
And brightens up my day
It just all works out, okay?
My water works that way
Life is humid and high
With daily lows no doubt
Just spring a leak and cry it out
When dry days bring on a drought
Water it well
Oh well, Oh Well, Oh well

Change (For Clean Water)
By Todd Burge Jan 17 2014
(c)Bunj Jam BMI
I wonder what the natives thought
As Washington rode their river so pristine
Then forced to follow his direction
Be it Hell or be it Heaven
Made to swim up
His Stream
The story is as old
As the mountains, tall and green
That used to make the skyline
Of a state that once was clean
Change, change
If not it all will stay the
Same same same
Change change
We’ve got to break and make some change
Granddad had a can
From the plant along the river
On his roof (It was 1972)
Issued by some man
To measure how much toxin
That plant was letting lose
Now the numbers are all in
They’ve been crunched and wadded up
They just toss them in the river
And now our children drink them up
Change, change
If not it all will stay the
Same same same
Change change
We’ve got to break and make some change
Short term gain is taking away
Everything our great state has got to gain
And when there’s nothing left to lose
Our kids will just pack up
And simply move away
It’s true what they say
Mountaineers are always free
In their hearts and minds
With freedom to leave
Change, change
If not it all will stay the
Same same same
Change change
We’ve got to break and make some change
“In this light, the Elk River leak could be the future of many American cities -- a future in which systems failures cause local catastrophic events, leaving taxpayers to foot the bill to clean up after polluters.” Angie Rosse - Executive Director of the West Virginia Rivers Coalition in Charleston WV.
