Way Over Yonder in the Minor Key I lived in a place called Okfuskee And I had a little girl in a holler tree I said, little girl, it's plain to see Ain't nobody that can sing like me Ain't nobody that can sing like me / G - - C - - - / - - - G - - - / 1st / C - - G / D - - Em - - - / She said it's hard for me to see How one little boy got so ugly Yes, my little girly, that might be But there ain't nobody that can sing like me Ain't nobody that can sing like me {Refrain} Way over yonder in the minor key Way over yonder in the minor key There ain't nobody that can sing like me / C - - G - - - / D - - Em - - - / D - - Em - - - / We walked down by the Buckeye Creek To see the frog eat the goggle eye bee To hear that west wind whistle to the east There ain't nobody that can sing like me Ain't nobody that can sing like me Oh my little girly will you let me see Where over yonder where the wind blows free Nobody can see in our holler tree And there ain't nobody that can sing like me Ain't nobody that can sing like me {Refrain} Her mama cut a switch from a cherry tree And laid it on to she and me It stung lots worse than a hive of bees But there ain't nobody that can sing like me Ain't nobody that can sing like me Now I have walked a long, long ways And I still look back to my tanglewood days I've led lots of girls since then to stray Saying, ain't nobody that can sing like me Ain't nobody that can sing like me {Refrain}

Buffalo Skinners Come all you old time cowboys And listen to my song I assure you won’t grow weary As I won’t detain you long Concerning some wild cowboys Who did agree to go And spend the summer pleasant On the range of the buffalo. Well I found myself in Griffin In eighteen eighty-three When a man by the name of Creagho Come a'walkin' up to me Sayin "How do you do young fella And how'd you like to go And spend the summer pleasant On the range of the buffalo". Well me being out of work right then To that drover I did say "My goin' out on the buffalo range Depends upon the pay But if you pay good wages, Transportation to and fro I think I might go with you On the range of the Buffalo". Well yes I pay good wages And transportation too If you'll agree to work for me Until the season's through But if you do get homesick And you try and run away You'll starve to death out on the trail And you'll also lose your pay Well with all the flatterin' talkin' He signed up quite a crew Some ten or twelve in number Able bodied thru and thru And our trip it was a pleasant one Through all New Mexico Until we crossed Pease River On the range of the buffalo It was there our pleasures ended And our troubles all begun A lightnin' storm come up on us And made the cattle run We got full of the stickers On the cactus that did grow And bandits waited to pick us off In the hills of Mexico Well the working season ended But the drover would not pay He said "You drank up all your money boys You're all in debt to me". But us cowboys didn’t care for His corrupted bankrupt tone So we left the drovers bones to bleach On the range of the buffalo.

Grow Up (june 27 2011) Taken from a write up about a woman who buried her husband in her flower garden. http://home.suddenlink.net/news/read.php?ps=1011&rip_id=%3CD9O437Q00%40news.ap.org%3E&_LT=HOME_LARSDCCLM_UNEWS Raleigh woman's garden became her husband's grave By RENEE ELDER Associated Press The Associated Press Monday, June 27, 2011 8:05 AM EDT For 35 years we were married me and he But he never seemed to need to add to his family tree We traveled all around like two wide eyed hippies But I had to let go of always thinking so retro … and say Grow up, sprout out of the ground Let your colors shine like the springtime As the sunshine dances on my weathered brow All you’ve got to do for now Is grow up Is it wrong for a woman to want a better life? With a man who’s kept at bay by his ways so childlike? He could bring home the bacon ‘stead of actin’ like a swine Put away the pop and have a little sip of wine And Chorus Now I’m handy with a shovel and I’m handy with a spade And when he wasn’t lookin’ I was handy with a blade Now he’s in my garden, pushin’ up my daisy And some may think I’m crazy But now my love must do what I say As I say Chorus

The Good Times of Life 8/4/2014 By Todd Burge We weren’t rich and we weren’t poor but the neighbor kid next door, could not say the same His playhouse was the place where all the who’s who in the hood would come to play their games One day they split and locked me up in there, then sprayed me like a bug That had just gasped at his last breath Mark this down as the good times of life That haven’t quit killed me yet It was a 1972 panel wagon with powered windows and rear views too And my first time driving solo I bought those wide mouths in Ohio in that lawless drive through Then me and Beth made the rounds as tiny towns were all a blur And how I got her home, I forget Mark this down as the good times of life That haven’t quit killed me yet Drew was in the service and as an expert in munitions, he proudly served He had the know how to kapow And led us down that country road that turned and swerved A 50 pound pumpkin packed with a gizmo ready set blew our minds that light stopped blinkin’ red Mark this down as the good times of life That haven’t quit killed me yet I was just a college boy who couldn’t keep his mind employed beyond his corduroy pants She was a girl I barely knew who had a man who was a bruiser, but still I took the chance I broke in her bedroom window for some coffee, tea or me Before he dropped her off in all her sun dressed mess Mark this down as the good times of life That haven’t quit killed me yet Now she and me have doubled down and after years of being two, we two have turned into two times two And those kids they grow so fast, not one moment ever lasts and our lives they blast on past One minute is a smile and the next, a major trial Yet I’d never trade it, you better know it, you better bet Mark this down as the good times of life That haven’t quit killed me yet Now I travel around from show to show, hiding behind my rhymes While revealing all I’ll never know Truth be told I do love it so, But I’d be lying if I didn’t say I daily miss my home Every note has a cost, that’s the price for being lost In a song with a tune that’s set Mark this down as the good times of life That haven’t quit killed me yet

Time to Waste Time (April 30 2014) By Todd Burge ©2015 Bunj Jam BMI Spring is here the bugs have come It’s time to dumb it down My head is filled with morning mist The moss is boss for now My list of things to do has been Misplaced someplace unknown It could be lost forever now Unread, un-shown and thrown Away I’m off in my mind, out of my head I’m off in my mind, out of my head Time to waste time With so much time on my hands Most doors need to be opened for me I’m leisurely and out to please Just me, myself, And me I’ll work for food, if the work is easy And if the food is good Cause Spring is here and the bugs have come And I couldn’t care if I could Chorus Forever more’s been around the bend Since before the bend was invented Since Father Time asked his dad for a dime and the keys to his Buick Some teen whoopee was in the offing In that big fat back seat The key to life lies neatly within Father Time’s time in…. That… back…. Seat.. I’m off in my mind, out of my head I’m off in my mind, out of my head Ready, or not ready yet Time to waste time

The Good Dog (1/7/04) by Todd Burge ©2005 Bunj Jam-BMI Capo 2 (E, F#m, A, B, C#m, G#m) My friend's pup Just threw up In the kitchen By the Door That bad boy Sure ain't good With his #2 Falling on my floor Who knew that you, Who knew you………… were the good dog? 'Cause when I whistle You do come At a steady pace No matter where from And when you sit there So Politely And wag your tail While I strum I think, who knew that you Who knew that you……… were the good dog? The bone I found Underground Was not in Your lost and found This took me 6 years To get a clue But for you it felt like 42 Who knew that you, Who knew that you…….. were the good dog?

First Day of Spring It’s the first day of spring The first day of spring So why is it so damned cold? I need to sneeze Need to release The last of a winter That has made me Feel two whole years older Maybe this year When and if this snow clears I’ll start going to church God knows it’s been years But it’s all his fault Cause no sane man Would drive to congregate In this frozen screwed up mess Chorus Our good dog is gone He was old and could not pass Through one more season Like that last one But the cold still sticks around Kickin’ me in my happy I suppose I’m just Sad about This man’s best friend’s end On this first day of spring First day of spring Why is it so damned cold? Maybe we all need To be brought to our knees To be thankful for What this new spring Will eventually Bring Change (For Clean Water) I wonder what the natives thought As Washington rode their river so pristine Then forced to follow his direction Be it Hell or be it Heaven Made to swim up His Stream The story is as old As the mountains, tall and green That used to make the skyline Of a state that once was clean Change, change If not it all will stay the Same same same Change change We’ve got to break and make some change Granddad had a can From the plant along the river On his roof (It was 1972) Issued by some man To measure how much toxin That plant was letting lose Now the numbers are all in They’ve been crunched and wadded up They just toss them in the river And now our children drink them up Change, change If not it all will stay the Same same same Change change We’ve got to break and make some change Short term gain is taking away Everything our great state has got to gain And when there’s nothing left to lose Our kids will just pack up And simply move away It’s true what they say Mountaineers are always free In their hearts and minds With freedom to leave Change, change If not it all will stay the Same same same Change change We’ve got to break and make some change
