Hip About Time

lyrics

Nashville Cats Have Guts Too
Some Nashville cats have nine
Some only one or two
The fat ones sit on their collective ass
And lap up a new litter like its stew
There’s a single drop of soul
That dripped off of one fat cat’s meal
He says he knows which knob to turn
To make your tune sound real

These songs pour from your heart
These songs spew from your soul
But the notes vibrate some strange way
On the way to some deep dark hole
They drop off the chart and the line goes flat
While the nurse is on another cigarette break
And after she’s finished with her smoke
It is way too late too late to resuscitate

Now that was a good one but that one is lost
Doesn’t it always happen like that?
So you write another tune in a hurry
And it ends up some piece of crap
You $2000 mic it and hard drive it
Into some fake kind of feel
And hope you can find the right knob
To make it sound real

So take me to some mountain top
With nothing but a sharp knife and a cigar box,
The guts from some fat Nashville cat
Yeah, I’ll just stay way lost
I’ll craft out a tune on that box
Then let the echo let me know how to feel
And I won’t need some other set of ears to hear that it is real
