I found myself lost in the middle of somewhere
Staring at a drunk who had a need to swear
If you give me five bucks he can have the last word
Then I’ll get on back to Parkersburg

If I had five bucks I’d try not to drink it
And If I saw a pretty sight try not to blink it
But this night’s as ugly as a four letter word
I need to get my ass on back to Parkersburg

I tried to get paid for the songs I played
But the owner passed out before he gave
I’m pissed and shaken’ rattled and stirred
I need to get on back to that burg

Then a lady walked up when the night was through
Askin’ me to play just one more tune
The Eagles was the byrd she preferred to heard
I had to get my ass back to Parkersburg


Now I don’t know where you call home
But it sure ain’t a number on your damn cell phone
Make that tiger in your tank start to purr
And get on back to that burg

There’s a tall pine tree with an empty nest
And a pretty woman who treats me best
My wheels only roll one way for sure

I’ve been to New York and Boston town
Been to San Fran and all around
Austin, Orlando, the Columbus Zoo
But my driver didn’t fit that awkward screw…
