lyrics

These Things I Think and Do by Todd Burge

Channels flipping one by one
And a second-long glance at a second chance is long gone
Land on a movie that doesn't move me
Hit the mute and stare at the screen until dawn

So, I open the door and the light comes on
Stare at some cheese with a date that 's way past gone
From now on I just order take out
Stay in and debate the mirror on what went wrong

These are the things I say
These are the things I think and do
To help me keep my mind away from you

That preacher tied the knot so tight
It seemed like a breath of fresh air was out of sight
We both choked through a motion
That our folks recognized as the good life

Now the pictures have all been taken
And the faking couple's only aim was to please
So, poke it with a fork, we're done
And both so tired of being made to say cheese

Chorus

Sunday paper stays on the porch way past noon
No need to know what goes down in this town
When I'm this blue

I chose to close this door
And went off and bought this new lock too
Now something's stuck in the key hole
And I want to, but just can't seem to peek through

Chorus

Now with one pocket empty
And the other one full of lent
Nobody owes me
But I still gotta somehow pay the rent

So, I grab my axe and a C harp
Pump some gas
And hit the road to who knows where
And play these songs of you
To the few out there who seem to care

Chorus

Now back home and sitting here
Just watching our dear old garden grow
Spring brings on green things
With of without the seeds we used to sow

So, I give this day a little time
And the morning coffee just might turn
Into an evening wine
And these weeds become the things
That cover up a love
That failed the test of time
